IPad Mini And IPad Air Likely To Adopt OLED Displays In The Wake Of 2024’s IPad Pro Release

According to a recent report from technology research firm Omdia, Apple is contemplating the incorporation of OLED displays into its iPad mini and iPad Air models starting in 2026. Omdia’s detailed analysis, outlining Apple’s prospective iPad panel acquisition strategy, indicates that 2024 will signal the commencement of a shift towards OLED technology in its tablet lineup. This transition towards OLED screens for Apple’s mid-range tablets aligns with the company’s OLED strategy set to unfold from 2026 onward.

Notably, Apple has not yet made a definitive commitment to adopting these advanced OLED displays for its mid-range tablet offerings. The tech giant seems inclined to assess market reactions to the forthcoming iPad Pro models featuring OLED screens, slated for release next year. This cautious approach allows Apple to gauge consumer response before making final decisions regarding the display technology for the iPad mini and iPad Air.

Additionally, the report corroborates speculations surrounding the iPad Pro models expected to launch next year. These models are anticipated to feature OLED displays supplied by industry leaders LG and Samsung. Apple is reportedly exploring additional suppliers for OLED displays tailored specifically for its iPad series.

The next-generation iPad Pro, slated for a 2024 release, is poised to be a significant overhaul of the product, marking the most substantial update since 2018. This upgrade promises to bring “fundamental changes,” including larger OLED displays, the introduction of the M3 chip, and support for a completely redesigned Magic Keyboard accessory.

Furthermore, Omdia’s report suggests that following the launch of the 11th-generation iPad, Apple may gradually phase out the 10.2-inch iPad models in favor of 10.9-inch versions, implying that the ninth-generation iPad may eventually be discontinued. This strategic shift aligns with Apple’s ongoing efforts to refine and diversify its product lineup based on market dynamics and technological advancements.
