The children’s picture book Doris the Dragon by Tom Morency has been awarded the Wordscape Wonders Award by OneTribune Media and the BREW Seal of Excellence from The Chrysalis BREW Project. The book has also been shortlisted for both the Monthly and Annual BREW Readers’ Choice Award.
According to OneTribune Media, the Wordscape Wonders Award recognizes books that “explore the landscapes of the human spirit, blending diverse voices with themes of love, resilience, growth, and discovery.” The award identifies works that “invite us to journey through unfamiliar perspectives, offering a deeper appreciation for the rich kaleidoscope of life.”
Doris the Dragon is a rhyming picture book for children ages 3 and up that features a dragon who is misjudged by others until an unexpected change invites a shift in perception. As one BREW review notes, “This book doesn’t just acknowledge [bias]—it gently upends it, inviting young readers to peer past their first impression and look again, with open eyes and open hearts.” The book was described further as “a story that whispers rather than shouts, gently curling around the reader like warm steam on a chilly morning.”
In addition to receiving the BREW Seal and the Wordscape Wonders Award, the book has been named a finalist for the monthly and annual BREW Readers’ Choice Award, joining other shortlisted titles across genres.
